Apple Nutrients That Keep the Doctor Away
Antioxidants are found in apples. Today antioxidants are found in almost everything. Antioxidants are chemicals found in fruits, vegetables and even chocolate. They help to fight the effects of free radicals in the body.
These free radicals are the by-products of cellular metabolism. These free radicals do damage to our bodies that cause us to actually "look" our age. Free radicals are very hard on the body and that doesn't stop as we get older.
As we get older this gets worse. As we age it compromises our immune system. When we grow older our bodies are not in peak fighting shape to ward off illnesses and diseases such as asthma and various forms of cancer. This is where antioxidants play their part and why they are so important.
A few of the antioxidant substances that are contained in apples are called flavonoids, quercetin, phloridzin and Vitamin C. These are the names of the substances that subdue the free radicals and prevent them from damaging our organs and vessels.
Eating many antioxidant rich foods like apples means help in fighting against aging and illness. It is not known how many antioxidants are required a day to achieve optimal health but choosing to eat antioxidant rich foods can be a helping factor.
Who can lose with apples on their side? Consuming apples is a very tasty proposition indeed. There are actually many different types of apples. Some that are tart, some are tangy, there are sweet and not so sweet apples. Choose one or more that fit those taste buds and get healthy while enjoying a great fruit.
Apples also contain pectin. The pectin found in apples helps reduce cholesterol levels in the body. Bad cholesterol is a big issue these days. Some of our favorite foods are loaded with bad cholesterol. Try switching out those French fries for at least one apple a day and see the difference it will make to your body.
