Creating That Perfect Easter Egg
The Key to Perfect Boiled Eggs
Do not cook the eggs in boiling water as this will make the eggs taste like rubber. The key to this is to boil the water and remove the pan from the stove. Place the eggs in the hot, boiled water for 15-17 minutes.
Creating Blown or Hollowed Easter Eggs
Simply wash and dry the eggs to begin creating a blown egg. You will want a thin needle for this. With the needle carefully poke a hole in each end of the egg. Cover both of the holes and shake the egg. Get a bowl and place the egg over it and gently blow into one of the holes in the egg. By doing this the egg white and yolk should make its way out of the other hole. Once all of the insides have been blown out wash and dry the egg again. Some eggs may not be that easy to blown out. A blown egg must be decorated with care.
Great Egg Decorating Ideas
It is up to you how simple or elaborate the eggs will be decorated. These eggs can be beautifully designed Easter eggs with items that you currently have on hand at home. Some of these ideas work egg-ceptionally well on blown eggs.
1. Ribbons on a blown egg. Take leftover ribbons and glue them to your egg. You can pick the desired colors.
2. Glitter on blown eggs. Spread a thin layer of glue onto the egg. Then roll the egg around in the glitter. Superfine glitter will give that egg a sugar coated look.
3. Lace on blown eggs. Follow the same procedure as with the ribbons to decorate these eggs.
4. Sponge Paint. To create original designs just dig out your sponges and craft paint.
5. Stickers on eggs. Allow the kids to decorate an egg with their favorite stickers.
6. Crayons on eggs. With parental supervision let your child color on a warm egg.
7. Mosaic eggs. Glue pieces of tissue paper, small pasta pieces or shells for a mosaic look.
Recipes for a True Dyed Easter Egg
The recipe for a simple egg dye is as follows. You will want to combine 1/2 cup boiling water with 1 tsp. of vinegar. Then add the food coloring to achieve your desired color. Proceed by dipping the hard cooked eggs in the dye for about 5 minutes or until you reach the desired color.
The recipe for a natural egg dye is a little different. You will want to dye your eggs in boiling water, with vinegar and the item used to create the desired color. Both the eggs and the dye should be boiled together.
