Have the Fourth at the Park
When packing for a day long park party, make it light and easily accessible. Planning ahead will make this an easy accomplishment. If you are going to take a cooler try to minimize it to only one. Place your drinks on the bottom of the cooler, covering with ice. Place your snacks that need refrigeration on top of the ice, making sure that you seal them in zippered bags.
You will want to pack lots of finger foods that are nutritious, that taste good and don’t require refrigeration. Not going to take a cooler, then individually package some nuts, dry cereal, beef jerky, peanut butter and crackers, goldfish crackers, pretzels or cereal bars. If you will be taking a cooler to the park, you may want to add some fresh raw vegetables, cheese slices or cubes, grapes, strawberries, some cubed watermelon or some cantaloupe.
To add a special treat to your park party add Firecracker Pretzel Rods. To make this just dip pretzel rods in white chocolate chips or almond bark. Before the almond bark or chocolate hardens sprinkle with red, white and blue sprinkles. This makes for a great sweet and salty treat. The young and old alike will enjoy chocolate dipped pretzels. If you will be packing bottled water, have some packs of powdered drink mix for a splash of flavor.
When you are planning your get together, don’t forget planning for your comfort also. Take along lawn chairs or beach chairs, blankets and pillows. Have some baby wipes or hand wipes on hand, just in case you are unable to access clean running water. Pack some insect repellent, mosquitoes really like to come around during this time of year.
If you plan ahead for your day, know what activities you will be enjoying, and pack to fit the day, you will have a more enjoyable day. Always use safety first, use caution lighting your own fireworks and sparklers and make sure children are supervised at all times.
