Grass Fed Meats and Saturated Fats Go Hand in Hand

Grass Fed Meats and Saturated Fats Go Hand in Hand

For years cattle have been fed grains such as corn. This is mainly done to put more weight on the cow. As time has evolved we have found this may not be the healthiest way to feed our cattle. Grass fed cattle are coming to the forefront because they are much healthier animals from the beginning. Feeding our cattle grain, such as corn, which is not easy to digest, has in turned led to giving cattle antibiotics to counter act the affects of the grain.

Here are a few ways that saturated fats and grass fed meats go hand in hand. Saturated fats may help to lower cholesterol. They contain stearic acid. These acids, when converted, turn into mono-unsaturated fat. Studies have shown that this type of fat has little, if any effect, on cholesterol.

Everyone produces cholesterol in their bodies. Some produce more than others. Grass fed meats contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help to lower cholesterol levels in the body. They also reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and depression. Grain fed meats contain high amount Omega-6 fatty acids. A diet must consist of a proper ratio of both to keep it from being prone to such diseases.

Grass fed meat does not contain the e-coli bacteria as grain fed meats do. Grain fed meats have been shown to carry these bacteria due to eating corn. Some other benefits of grass fed meat include less fat and less calories than grain fed meats. It also contains more vitamins and minerals than grain fed meats.

If you’re looking for a healthier type of meat that is rich in saturated fats, try grass fed meat. The facts show, with research on top of research and study after study, that grass fed meat is a much healthier alternative all the way around.
