Help in the Kitchen for the Busy Mom

Being a Mom is a job all on it’s own. Adding the cleaning, cooking, outside job and well, just about anything else your family might need, can take every minute of every day. Finding ways to help you at home is important for many reasons. It relieves some stress, can give you an extra 15 minutes to yourself and can keep you healthy and happy.

Help in the Kitchen for the Busy Mom

One place to save some time is in the kitchen with your cooking. There are many shortcuts we can take and still be sure our family has a hot and well balance meal at dinner time.

Start by making a list before you go to the grocery store. Not just a shopping list but a meal plan also. Plan out the meals you want to fix for the entire week. Check the cabinets to see what you have and what you need to add to the grocery list. This will save you time and money when purchasing your groceries.

When you get home from that shopping trip go ahead and prepare the meats, vegetables and fruits you want to use for the week. If you buy in bulk, separate the meat and place it in freezer bags or containers. Chop vegetables and fruits that you will be using. Store them in containers in the refrigerator. This way all your ingredients are ready to cook at a blink of an eye.

Spend a day preparing meals ahead of time. Freeze the meals and when the time comes just pop them out of the freezer and cook them as you normally would. You can also prepare extra. If you have a meal you eat frequently, go ahead and make extra. You can freeze it and when you have a craving for that one certain meal it is available without too much trouble.

If you are the type of person who just can’t find the time to spend one whole day cooking, make a couple of meals that you can use the leftovers for something else. Chili is a great leftover meal. You can add some macaroni to make goulash or use it as a topping for baked potatoes later in the week. These types of meals are always best made at the beginning of the week. This will ensure you have the leftovers to use if you are in a tight spot and need something quick.

One other great idea is to use your crock pot. Throw all the ingredients into the crock pot either the night before or first thing in the morning. Turn on the heat and let it go. When the family gets home in the evening you’ll have a great meal ready and waiting for them.

Home cooked meals are always the best. Finding the time to make them can be stressful, nerve wracking and tiring. With a little planning ahead and some great shortcuts you can make the perfect meal night after night.
