Ideas for Packing a Brown Bag Lunch

Can you remember a time when your mother used to pack you a brown bag lunch for school? Today, brown bag lunches have gone all modern and flashy. Here are some essentials to have on hand the next time you offer your family a brown bag lunch.

Ideas for Packing a Brown Bag Lunch

Keep in mind that the packaging is part of the presentation. It doesn't matter if you use a brown bag or a lunch box, be creative. There are all kinds of ways to decorate a brown paper bag. You can decorate it using stickers or unique drawings if you choose. Lunch boxes on the other hand used to be metal and covered with super heroes. Now they are insulated and come in various shapes and sizes. The lunch bag that is being chosen should fit the style of the one using it.

Remember refrigeration. Many companies offer some form of refrigeration for their employees. When the lunch can be kept cold it can stay in the brown bag. Sticking to the traditional packaging can be hard if a refrigerator is not available. If this is the case, you can always bring a cold pack to keep the brown bag lunch cold. You can store the cold pack in the freezer in a leak proof plastic bag. The leak proof plastic bag protects the food from contamination should the pack get punctured. It also protects the food when the cold pack begins to thaw. Cold packs stay cold for several hours each day.

Containers are great for preventing cross contamination. Has your child ever opened their lunch and seen a sandwich all soggy from the drink they carried that opened up? Containers even prevent this from happening. Most lunch bags come with a container that fit that type of bag. If your lunch bag does not come with a container you can buy various sizes of containers. Remember tight fitting lids so that if the lunch bag takes a tumble nothing will be disturbed.

Last but not least be sure to add a little note of love. This not only works for kids but adults as well. When they open their lunch and find a note of encouragement from someone they love can make a bad day all better again. Some kids may get embarrassed but don't worry too much about that. You may even start a new fad and eventually their friends will begin looking for notes in their lunches also.

What essentials will you require to complete your brown bag lunch? Will you need plastic ware, napkins, or condiments? You can keep a set of silverware, extra condiments or wet napkins if your lunch bag has an extra compartment. If you are prepared you won’t be caught without the essentials that are required for a stupendous lunchtime.
