Lunch Box Ideas

Deciding on what to pack for lunches can sometimes be difficult. Our options can be limited if there isn't a way to warm up our food. Lunchmeat with cheese on bread with potato chips is not actually healthy for us is it?

Nutritious but Delicious Lunch Box Ideas

This may require some thinking outside of the box. By using a little creativity you can make wonders happen. It won't be that hard to pack a healthy lunch for ourselves or our kids. Below are just a few suggestions to get you started.

Healthy Lunch Box Main Dishes

Pasta salad is great. Many grocery stores sell kits with everything you need inside to make pasta salad. There is always the option to make your own too. Be sure to include vegetables such as cucumbers, peppers and onions to add flavor and nutrition. The kids will love the pasta that comes in different shapes if you want to try that in theirs.

Put together a fajita. Leftover meat from dinner the night before can be used. Throw in some lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and some of your favorite light dressing or sauce. The kid's will love them and it will make for a nice change of pace.

Make a turkey bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. This also is healthy and it mixes things up for a nice change.

A grilled chicken salad also is a healthy lunch box idea. Grill up some organic chicken breasts, slice them up and then add them to some salad greens. Toss in some shredded cheese and cherry tomatoes to provide a nutritious and filling dish.

Make homemade soup or chili and put it in a thermos. This works well in the winter. It provides something warm for a little change of pace.

Use bagels instead of ordinary bread on your sandwiches. Bagels are nutritious and filling. This will give you a break from plain old white or wheat bread.

Healthy Lunch Box Side Dishes

Vegetables make great side dishes. Throw in some baby carrots, celery sticks or sliced cucumbers. Pack a small container of hummus or vegetable dip to liven up your vegetables.

Try sending some yogurt with fruit and granola in your child's lunch box. This will provide your child with the protein, carbohydrates and vitamins that they need. What a great dessert for them to find at the end of their meal.

Keep fresh fruit handy. This will save time when you're in a rush. You can grab the fruit and throw it in the lunchbox as a nutritious side dish. Why not whip up some fruit salad? It is an easy to make treat. Get a can of fruit cocktail and drain it. Finish it off by adding some chopped walnuts, marshmallows and sliced bananas. Soak this in lemon juice to keep the fruit from turning brown.

Mix up some trail mix. Combine your favorite kinds of nuts, raisins, dried bananas and cranberries. Don't forget the granola.
