Practice Makes Perfect When Grilling Steak

Making the perfect grilled steak can be quite difficult for some. As many people say, practice makes perfect. There will probably be a few disappointments before you reach perfection in this area. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to start with mediocre products.

Practice Makes Perfect When Grilling Steak

Just remember that the more you practice the better it will get. To achieve the title for the most perfect grilled steak this will require the use of the grill more than a couple of times a year.

You will want to start by choosing your cut of meat. The fact is that beef can be expensive. The extra thick steaks that you see on the commercials will cost a pretty penny, but, no need for to worry. It won't be too hard to find what you are looking for at your local butcher shop or the meat section of your favorite grocery store.

One of the best meats for grilling is labeled USDA Prime. This beef is marbled with fat, which means that there are veins of the fat running through the meat. This beef is aged for several days so that it is perfect for grilling. If the prime cut of beef is not in your budget then you can go with the USDA Choice. The USDA Choice beef is a little cheaper but just as marbled and still taste delicious when grilled.

Now that the grade of meat you are looking for has been chosen the next step is to know which types of beef cuts are the best when cooked on the grill. Two of the best options are the New York strip steak or a T-bone steak. These two cuts of beef grill up nice and tender and taste out of this world. There are also the porterhouse and sirloin steaks. These also grill up nicely. Any steak with a bone will require a longer cooking time for the meat area next to the bone.

If you want to marinate your steak before grilling, an hour in the fridge should be an ample amount of time for this. With the proper cuts of beef, this is enough time for the meat to soak up the flavor. Allow the meat to come to room temperature before grilling.

If the steaks are a cherry color they are ready for grilling. Try to stay away from the marked down meat that is turning a shade of gray or brown. Ask the butcher for advice on the best buys. Are you ready to begin your grilling adventure? Don’t forget that practice makes perfect so grill to your hearts content.
