Are your kids always hungry after a long day at school? For your child to get the nourishment that their growing bodies need snacks are needed between meals? No, we are not talking about processed foods that are full of sugar. An ideal snack would be one that offers vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.


Healthy Power Snacks for Kids

Below are some healthy snack options to keep on hand. These snacks will provide your child with the nutrition that is needed while satisfying their hunger.

Raisins are great item to have on hand for snacking. They can be bought in individual size servings. Raisins have a sweet taste that kids love. They also provide nutrients such as iron and vitamins such as A, B, and C.

What kid doesn't like apples? To get the most benefits from apples serve them with the peel on. Most of the vitamins and minerals are in the peel. However, apples are still healthy without the peel. Apples can even be topped off with peanut butter, cheese or yogurt. This will add more flavors and increase the nutritional value as well.

Yogurt is a healthy snack as well, providing that your child likes yogurt. It will be even better with some berries and granola added to it. Yogurt provides healthy amounts of protein and fiber. It also contains vitamins and is low in fat.

Trail mix is also a healthy snack. Does your child need an energy boost? Nuts are great for doing the trick. Nuts also provide kids with the protein they need. The vitamins and sweetness come from the dried fruit in the trail mix.

Ants on a log are for the stubborn child. It provides a fun snack with a visual appeal. Cut up celery sticks, fill them with peanut butter and to top it off, add some raisins.

Fruit and cheese kebabs are another idea. They are nice to look at and fun to eat. You can do this by using pineapple chunks, grapes and cubes of cheese. Put them on a toothpick or even a popsicle stick.

Baby carrots are popular among the younger kids when it comes to vegetables. With baby carrots you can't go wrong. Be sure to keep some on hand for a quick but pleasing snack.

Chewy fruit snacks are great for kids who insist on eating nothing but junk food. They are usually more than happy to eat the pre-packed fruit snacks. What they don't know is that they are actually good for them. Be sure to choose the brand that has no added sugar and plenty of vitamin C.

Mini bagel pizzas work if your child is really hungry. You can make these bite-sized pizzas by topping mini bagels with a dollop of pizza sauce and a pinch of mozzarella cheese. For extra nutrition add some chopped sweet peppers. These can be heated in the microwave or toaster oven until the cheese is melted.

There are healthier options other than those sweets or greasy chips. These options also taste equally good. If kids just give fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and yogurt a chance they'll find that they taste great too. On your next trip to the grocery store bypass the cookies on the shelf and try a few of these healthy alternatives.
