Stress Fighting Foods

Helping to keep our energy levels consistent and giving us the things we need to make it through a long day, the right foods and exercise can be the perfect answer.

Help Fight Tension and Stress with Food

Believe it or not the right foods can help battle the everyday stress and tension all of us have to deal with. Choosing the right foods, whether for a meal or for an afternoon snack, can make all the difference in how we deal with the trauma of our everyday lives.

Caffeine and sugar are the number one factors to causing stress levels to go over the roof. Sure they give us a quick fix but once that blast of adrenaline is gone, and it doesn’t take long, we are in worse shape than before indulging ourselves.

Instead of running out the door in the morning and taking the time to stop at the local convenience store for breakfast, try having a nutritious breakfast at home. Oatmeal or a healthy breakfast cereal can be very appetizing in the morning. Add a cup of decaffeinated tea and you have the fixing for a great start to a great day. Even a quick fruit or vegetable smoothie can give you the vitamins and minerals needed for a balanced diet.

Salt and fatty foods are also not a great help when it comes to fighting tension and stress. Salt has a tendency to increase blood pressure. When salt, high blood pressure and stress come together the result can be devastating. Fats can have the same results and are generally not healthy for anyone.

Don’t run out to the nearest fast food restaurant for lunch. This can only lead to high intake of salt and fatty foods. Try bringing your lunch from home. Fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats such as chicken and salads can make for a great lunch. They are good for you, filled with antioxidants that help to maintain a healthy body and taste good too. How can anyone beat that. Plus they help you to build and maintain the energy your body needs to make it through the afternoon.

Don’t grab that chocolate bar for the three o’clock snack anymore either. Those fresh fruits and vegetables or a protein bar are the ticket to making it through those last couple of hours in the day. Along with drinking plenty of water, these are the types of foods that will not only help you make it through the rest of your work day but get you home and able to face the evening with gusto.

A balanced diet is essential in fighting the everyday tension and stress we all face. Yes, exercise is important too but to be able to exercise your body must be healthy and that begins with a balanced diet. Try changing the way you eat and see if it makes a difference. You have nothing to loose by trying it and everything to gain; including your good health and a beautiful smile that lasts all day.
