1. Add cubed beef to frying pan with a little olive oil. Brown over high heat on all sides.
2. Add carrots, celery and onion in crockpot.
3. Add beef on top of vegetables.
4. Combine undrained tomatoes, barley, basil, beef broth and pour over beef and vegetables.
5. Add a little salt and pepper.
6. Cover crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours or until tender.
