Cran-Apple Chutney


* 2 medium Rome apples, peeled, seeded & chopped
* 1 cup cranberries
* 1/4 cup golden raisins
* 2 tablespoons brown sugar
* 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
* 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
* 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
* 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon


1. Put all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to simmer and let cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Let cool then put in a food processor. Pulse a couple times until well combined.
3. Cover and refrigerate.


Chutney gets a bad reputation sometimes because it's viewed as a very sweet and therefore fattening luxury. This chutney leans heavily to the nutritious ingredients like apple, cranberries, and raisins, with only limited amounts of sugar. The spices add the warm, pungent aroma and flavor, without the calories. Spread a bit on a toasted English muffin for a delicious, and nutritious, sweet-treat for your family.
