Fire Roasted Great Northern Bean Sausage Stew - Crock Pot

* 3 small breakfast sausage links, cut into small pieces
* 1/2 cup chopped onion
* 2 cans (15 oz size) Great Northern beans, undrained
* 1 can (16 oz) Fire Roasted diced tomatoes with garlic
* 2 cups water
* salt and pepper to taste

1. Turn crockpot on HIGH and put sausage and onion in to cook, stirring frequently, until sausage is browned a bit and onion is transparent.
2. Dump in the beans, diced tomatoes, and water, stir and cover.
3. Turn heat down to LOW and cook for 5 to 6 hours.

This recipe is for anyone who enjoys a hearty meal without having to clean a bunch of dishes. Yes, you can set your crockpot on 'High' and use it to brown small pieces of meat and veggies like this recipe calls for. Many crockpot enthusiasts fry foods first in a separate skillet, but this is a great way to eliminate one more dirty dish.

However, if you need a very high heat, like browning a large roast or chicken parts, for instance, stick to the skillet. Your crockpot won't get hot enough for that task. It will handle smaller pieces of meat just fine though.
