* 1 lb. bratwursts, cut in fourths on a diagonal
* 4 Granny Smith apples cored, and sliced into 8 wedges each (do not peel)
* 1 (27 oz) can, jar, or bag of sauerkraut
* 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
* 1/4 cup water

This recipe is so simple and has a lot of flavor. Tweak it to suit your own tastes or the ingredients you have on hand.
For instance, you can use any other apple you have on hand, just so long as it's a tart, crisp apple. You can also use other sausages, such as sweet or hot Italian sausage.
I prefer to use a better sauerkraut, but even the cheapest sauerkraut works out just fine because there is so much flavor in the other ingredients that a stronger sauerkraut stands up to it.
Don't be tempted to overcook this crock pot meal. Prepare it only when you can take it out after about 3 or 4 hours. You want the apples to maintain their shape and the brats not to get soggy.
You can serve this dish with some smashed Yukon Gold potatoes for a real filling, delicious meal.
