Ham And Swiss Celebration Breakfast |
Ingredients
|
* 6 leftover baked croissants, cut in half lengthwise
* 8 ounces Swiss cheese, grated
* 4 ounces cooked ham, chopped
* 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
* 12 large eggs
* 3 cups milk
* 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon pepper
* optional melted butter
|
Directions
|
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter or grease a large baking dish.
2. Place the BOTTOM halves only of the crescent rolls on cutting board and cube them up into small pieces; then put in a large bowl.
3. To the bowl, add the Swiss cheese, ham, and onion, tossing to combine; set aside.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and the seasonings, until well combined.
5. Pour this mixture into the bowl with cubed crescents and toss well.
6. Turn this mixture into the baking dish, then evenly arrange the crescent tops on top of the mixture, pressing gently so they settle into the egg mixture about half way up the crescent. *Optional: brush melted butter on each crescent.
7. Bake in preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until the top gets golden brown and the eggs set up.
8. Remove and let sit for 3 minutes before cutting into servings. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Okay, truth is, we rarely have leftover crescent rolls, so I bake a batch to use in this recipe. You can really use any baked biscuits you'd like in this dish. Buttermilk biscuits or powdered biscuits work, too. I would definitely brush the melted butter on top of the biscuits to keep them moist. You can also sprinkle just a little grated Parmesan cheese on top of this dish just before you take it out of the oven to give the top a cheesy finish.
