1. Put water in saucepan, bring to a boil over medium high heat, then stir in sugar; turn heat down and simmer for 3 minutes.
2. Stir in the rum and simmer for 2 minutes more.
3. Remove saucepan from heat and let cool for a few minutes; then add the lime juice and lime zest, stirring to combine; set aside.
4. Using a melon-baller if you have one, cut melons into balls. As an alternative, you can also dice fruit into bite size cubes.
5. Put the melons into a big bowl, add blueberries, drizzle the sugar/rum mixture over the fruit and toss to combine well, being careful not to break up the melon pieces.
6. Cover bowl with plastic food wrap and put in refrigerator to chill until ready to serve.

Anyone for fruit salad? How about fruit salad with a kick?! This is a remarkable fresh fruit salad that is very grown up - no whipped cream, no marshmallows - just good fruit with a simple syrup dressing, and of course the rum!
Of course you can eliminate the rum if you want to serve this without alcohol. Just make the simple syrup without the rum and follow the rest of the recipe directions. It's also very fresh and yummy.
