Beef & Turnip Stew - Crock Pot

* 1 1/2 lbs stewing meat
* 1/4 cup flour
* 2 large onions, coarse chopped
* 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed, about 1 inch pieces
* 4 large carrots, sliced in 1 inch pieces
* 1/2 cup shredded cabbage (may use cole slaw mix in a bag)
* 1 1/2 cups diced turnips (about 1 inch pieces)
* 3 cloves garlic, minced or grated
* black pepper to taste
* 3 cups water
* 1 1/4 cups beef broth
* 1 (16 oz) can tomato sauce
* 1 teaspoon dried oregano
* 1 bay leaf

1. Coat beef with flour and put in crock pot.
2. Add all other ingredients. Cook, covered, on low 5 to 6 hours.
3. Remove bay leaf before serving.

Turnips have a unique flavor that adds a distinct flavor to this beef stew. Cabbage is in that same flavor family so they really compliment each other. This is a nice autumn recipe when turnips are plentiful. Use nice small ones so they don't get stringy.
