Sausage Balls with Bisquick

Ingredients

* 3 cups of Bisquick
* 2 cups of grated cheese
* 1 pound of sausage. I use mild but some people like the sausage to be hot.

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix everything together. If you find them not moist enough add a little water. Form mixture into 1 inch balls. Bake for 15 minutes. Serve warm.

You can freeze these before cooking or after and they do great either way!

Story

My husband loves sausage balls but wont eat the three dozen within a day or two. These freeze very well and great to make during the week if you have a party for the weekend!

This may seem like a crazy question but do you mix the bis quick like you're making biscuits then add sausage and cheese or just use a little water with the powder as you're mixing all ingredients?

Can you use pre-shredded cheese & still freeze them? I saw on another site someone said not to use pre-shredded cheese if you are going to freeze them.

My grandmother AKA "Maw" used to make these for breakfast when my brother and I stayed at their house overnight, when I was 8 or nine years ago. That was -OH WOW!- 21 years ago!!! YIKES! She and Pap, my Grandfather, were farmers (of course) since they grew up in the 1920s and 30s, so they always woke us up at 4:30am for breakfast. I have always been hard to wake up early (especially that early), but when she'd say "Wake up; I made sausage balls," I practicially jumped out of bed! =D Incase you don't know, elderly women- born and raised in Tennessee- are the best cooks around, and she is the best I've ever known! Lunch at her house any day of the week was like Heaven, and I would NEVER even think to miss a ThanksGiving. You could cut the turkey with a spoon! She taught me how to cook when I was about 10 years old, which my girlfriend(s) ;o) REALLY appreciate! Okay, back to the point; Her recipe was the same as above... sometimes. I usually just split the incredients and make a half batch so I know they'll be gone in a few hours, let alone a day or two. But she taught me 2 recipes for this treat, and if you haven't tried it this way, you really should, because they are incredible! - - Replace the shredded cheese with a can of Campbell's cheese soup. Swapping those ingredients accomplishes 2 great things. 1)The soup adds moister to the "batter" making it a breeze to mix. 2)You won't believe how much better they taste! Don't believe me? Try it, and I promise: you and all your taste-testers WILL approve!!! I just made some about an hour ago... Ah, the memories! Well, happy baking everyone. And now you know that SOME men CAN cook. LOL ;o) Take care, Scott Fairview, TN

Makes about 60 quarter sized pieces, sounds like you would need 2 batches. let sausage come close to room temp to mix easier, use a large mixer with dough hooks or your hands as will stall a small hand mixer.

Wow, if your husband can't eat those delicious treats within a day or two, he needs to grow some "balls" of his own... :-D
