1. Mix the flour and salt together then cut in the butter until it resembles breadcrumbs.
2. Stir in the brown sugar, apples and enough milk until the mixture resembles soft dough.
3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cutout circles with a cookie cutter or biscuit cutter. If you don't have either, use a small bowl, set on dough, and cut around with a knife.
4. Cook in a heated skillet for 4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

There's a lot of butter and brown sugar in this recipe which makes them super yummy! You may want to make these breakfast cakes for a special occasion. Serve them while they're hot, with a drizzle of apple syrup.
Apple syrup can easily be made with apple cider, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a little butter. Just start adding ingredients to the apple cider, tasting, adding a touch more, until you get the taste you like. You may want to squeeze in a little lemon juice, add some brown sugar, and even some grated or sliced apple. Just simmer your mixture in a sauce pan on the stove over low heat until it reduces down by about a third.
If you like your syrup a little thicker, you can add cornstarch. Be sure to dissolve your cornstarch in cold water before adding to your syrup.
