Fourth of July’s Top Ten Finger Foods

When family and friends come together to celebrate, you will want to enjoy the fun also and not have all your time taken up by the preparation. Here are some finger food ideas that will not put a hole in your pocket book and make your time in the kitchen more enjoyable.

Using crescent rolls and hot dogs you will be making an all time favorite “Pigs in a Blanket.” Rolling a hotd og in each crescent roll, place them in a 9x13 baking pan and bake by the directions on the roll package. When the pigs are done top with your favorite condiment of ketchup, mustard or ranch dressing.

Boneless Hot Wings are pretty simple when you bake up some plain breaded chicken chunks according to directions on package. When the chicken is cooked, dip them in a mixture of barbecue sauce, Mexican seasonings, or some hot sauce. Serve with celery sticks and blue cheese dressing.

Making Cucumber Pita Sandwiches is a cinch. Soften a package of cream cheese and add a package of dry Italian dressing powder and mix until smooth. Let this rest in the refrigerator overnight. Spread the cream cheese mixture onto two pieces of flat pita bread. Slice a cucumber, pat it dry, and put a layer between the pita bread. Using a pizza cutter, cut into triangles and serve.

To make home made Acquits just warm up some flour tortillas until flexible. Place some shredded cheese and taco meat into each shell and roll up. With vegetable oil baste each roll and bake on 350F until crispy.

Fried zucchini seasoned with garlic powder, Parmesan cheese and lemon pepper is another taste pleaser. Cut the zucchini into a quarter size pieces and sprinkle with the seasonings. In a frying pan place about a quarter inch of oil, fry until golden brown on both sides.

Kids really like cheese puffs. Combine two cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese and a half pound of butter in a food processor and mixing until smooth. When the mixture is smooth add a cup of flour and mix well. Roll this mixture out until it is a quarter of an inch thick. Cut the dough into two inch squares, wrap the square around an olive with pimento, sealing the seams. Bake at 350F on a cookie sheet until golden brown and crispy.

Nacho cups are a tasty treat. Place a scoop of prepared warm taco meat into a Tostitos Scoop, top with shredded cheese. Add your favorite toppings such as salsa, sliced black olives, sour cream, chopped onions or tomatoes.

Unroll crescent rolls into triangles to make Pizza Roll-Ups. Sprinkle each roll with Italian seasonings and garlic. Place four slices of pepperoni and a half of a piece of string cheese into each triangle. Roll up and sprinkle with the seasonings again. Bake according to the crescent roll package directions. Dip in marinara or pizza sauce.

Sweet Turkey Wraps can be made ahead of time to save you time. Mix a softened package of cream cheese, two tablespoons of applesauce and one teaspoon dried thyme until smooth. Spread this onto fajita size tortillas, then place thin sliced turkey onto each tortilla and roll up. When rolled, wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for two hours or until firm. Cut them into one inch pieces and serve.

Crush a package of goldfish crackers to make the Goldfish Crusted Chicken Fingers. Pour a bottle of buttermilk and ranch dressing in a large bowl. Place the crushed goldfish crackers in another bowl. Using chicken tenderloins, dip in dressing, and then place in the crackers. Put the chicken tenderloins in a foil lined pan sprayed with cooking spray. Bake the chicken at 350F for 10 to 15 minutes or until done.
