Strengthen Immune System Naturally

The body's immune system is a fascinating work of art. Our body's immune system springs into action when it is invaded with foreign germs. Our immune system sends defenders to fight off these germs. It's a shame that sometimes our immune system doesn't quite work as well as it should.

Strengthen Your Immune System Naturally With Diet

All sorts of things can have a negative impact on our immune system. Stress, improper diet, lack of exercise and even environmental factors can negatively impact our immune system. We are more likely to get sick if our immune system is having an off day.

The great news is we can boost our immune system without prescription or over-the-counter drugs. A proper diet will provide us with the nutrients that our immune system needs to be strong.

We'll start with citrus fruits. A few of these powerful immune boosting citrus fruits are oranges and lemons. Citrus fruits contain a lot of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a nutrient that helps increase the production of white blood cells and antibodies. It is surprising to know that a medium orange packs 75 milligrams of vitamin C.

Next up is carrots. There is a load of beta carotene in carrots. Beta carotene is a close ally of the immune system. Beta carotene promotes the production of killer cells and T cells. These are powerful infection fighters. It has been proven that falcarinol, a compound found in carrots, may even aid in preventing and fighting cancer.

You may not know that garlic is superb at fighting almost any type of infection. Garlic is often used in herbal remedies. Eating garlic a few times a week will keep the immune system in prime condition. Crush and eat garlic fresh for the best results. Eating garlic fresh will maximize the amounts and availability of the infection-fighting compounds present.

Rich bacterial cultures can be found in yogurt. The acidophilus bacteria contained in yogurt are essential to its proper function. This bacteria helps our bodies absorb the nutrients in the food we eat and fight off the disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Bifid bacterium is another bacterium that is found in yogurt. This bacterium is particularly beneficial to the elderly.

Oysters are also great. Oysters are the best source of zinc. Zinc helps in the reproduction and function of antibodies. Zinc also hinders bacterial and viral growth. This makes it easier for the immune system to kill harmful nasty germs.

Fatty fish contains large quantities of Omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty fish include salmon, tuna and mackerel. These Omega 3 fatty acids encourage activity in phagocytes. Phagocytes are white blood cells that consume bacteria. You can enhance this effect by adding a vitamin E supplement.

It is our job to take care of our immune system. If this is done correctly the immune system can fight off most diseases and infections without the help of antibiotics and other drugs. A good start for caring for your immune system is including these foods in our daily diet.
