This recipe is for anyone who enjoys a hearty meal without having to clean a bunch of dishes. Yes, you can set your crockpot on 'High' and use it to brown small pieces of meat and veggies like this recipe calls for. Many crockpot enthusiasts fry foods first in a separate skillet, but this is a great way to eliminate one more dirty dish.
However, if you need a very high heat, like browning a large roast or chicken parts, for instance, stick to the skillet. Your crockpot won't get hot enough for that task. It will handle smaller pieces of meat just fine though.
