Homemade Pita Pockets - Bread Machine


*1 1/4 C of water
*1/4 C of vegetable oil
*1 1/2 tsp salt
*1 tbsp sugar
*2 1/2 C of bread flour
*1 C of rye flour
*1/2 C of buttermilk powder
*2 1/2 tsp of yeast


1. Put all of the ingredients into the bread machine pan as directed for your machine.
2. Select the dough cycle and when finished remove dough to a lightly flour surface, letting it rest for 15 minutes.
3. Divide the dough into 16 portions and form into balls, and then flatten into disks.
4. Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 3 minutes.
5. Remove and stack the pitas on top of each other and wrap in a kitchen towel until completely cooled


If you're a fan of pita pockets AND a fan of homemade bread, this is the perfect recipe to try. You can make a batch of these and seal them in zipper freezer bags and keep frozen until you want to eat them. Be sure you separate each pita with wax paper or parchment paper so you can take out only the amount you want. Then thaw and use!
