Real Custard and Berry Blend Smoothie |
Ingredients

* 3 eggs
* 1/4 C sugar
* 1/4 tsp. salt
* 3 C of milk
* 1 C cream
* 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
* Assorted berries

Directions

1. In a mixing bowl beat the eggs until just blended.
2. Add the sugar and salt to the beaten eggs.
3. Stir in the milk and cream, being sure to stir very gently.
4. Place the mixture in a small saucepan.
5. Place the pan over low heat.
6. Constantly stirring cook the mixture until it is thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon.
7. Remove from the heat and fold in the vanilla.
8. Cover and store in the refrigerator for 1 hour or until cold.
9. Remove from the refrigerator and beat the mixture on medium speed until blended well.
10. Pour into glasses and top with the assorted berries just before serving.

This is probably the original smoothie created generations ago by our grandmothers and great-grandmothers as a treat on a quiet evening. Cooking up traditional custard gives a very homey appeal to this smoothie.
